  3. Do you look? I have 40, 50, 60 year old clients that come into the clinic, they squirm and giggle in their seat when I give them this chart and ask "do you look".

On the other hand, I have 14, 15 and 16 year olds that examine this chart carefully and meticulously describe to me their bowel motions.

  10. Sometimes life throws a curve ball!

When things aren't going the way you planned and you ate/drank in a way that did not serve your health, you can always push the reset button and start the next day fresh!

Being born under the sign of Cancer, we have a tendency to spend a lot of time in our head thinking about the past, and if we stay in that headspace it can bring on a mild case of depression. One of the best pieces of advice I have ever received is that "the past belongs in the past". Once I learnt that, I figured out pretty quick that there's just no point dwelling on situations you can't change - it's just an epic waste of time!

So there's no point using your energy to relive negative situations or beating yourself up because you ate in a particular way. Take a breath, reset/refocus and start tomorrow fresh!

  14. FOOD HACK: If you can see it, you're more likely to eat it!

One of the things I love about Mondays is that I can open the fridge and do a classic "grab n go". Chopping up fruit 🍎and vegetables 🍆makes it so much easier for me to pack my food for the day. I can grab a snack and throw together a quick lunch 🥗in less than 90 seconds before flying out the door. And when I come home, everything's chopped, I just pull it out of the fridge and start cooking.

If you like the sound of that it does mean that you'll need to create space in your life to food prep and when you do that, well . . . now you stand in a very powerful position.

If you want to amp up your nutrition profile and make your life easier, dedicating one hour to prepare your food will work wonders for you! Not only will you save time in the long run but you'll be less inclined to eat takeaways for dinner and reduce your weekly food waste as well.

It'll take two adults, 2-3 days to get thru this bunch of goodness: carrots 🥕 + bok choy + pineapple 🍍 + mango + celery + spinach + courgette zoodles + cucumber 🥒 + capsicum + cherry tomatoes 🍅 + strawberries 🍓 + broccoli + spring onion and then on Wednesday night I get to do it all over again - whoop whoop!

  17. One of the strategies I'm working on with a client is to practice winning. This was the best approach to help him achieve his health and fitness goals because he really wants to win in his sport.
.
I mentioned that "if we're going to pursue winning, we need to win in all areas of our life". There were strengths he had picked up in sport and rather than keep them confined there, a better approach was to redirect those strengths towards his nutrition and fitness.
.
We identified that he was really good at "planning and executing", so we agreed to plan and execute breakfast. We also identified that he enjoyed the feeling of winning. After explaining that the body releases those same endorphins after a workout, he became more consistent with his training and improved his fitness level.
.
Humans have a habit of down-playing their strengths and achievements but the truth is if you're the type of person who eats breakfast in the morning, that's a small win! If you create space in your life to do a workout, that's a small win!
.
Winning is winning. Doesn't matter how big or small it is. When you practice winning everyday, you get used to that feeling and when this client has to compete, winning will feel natural to him.

  19. It's quite fascinating to watch the lightbulb go off when clients profess to me that they can't cook. Actually the stories they share with me are very very convincing but I just ask them one simple question . . . "Can you read?" When they look at me perplexed 😕and respond yes, I add . . . "Well if you can read, you can cook".

I always get a "that's a good one" smile 😁back but more importantly it completely shifts their mindset and busts through long held belief systems they've been holding on to for years, sometimes decades where they actually think that they could not cook and it was this belief system that prevented them from moving forward with their health and wellness goals.
.
Sometimes we don't even know what belief systems are holding us back which is why it is so important to work with a nutritionist that is focussed on getting to the root cause of a situation and can provide you with common-sense approaches that inspires you to breakthrough your barriers and create a happier, healthier version of you.

This is one of the reasons why people think that it's expensive to eat healthy food because they see an expensive price tag when they walk into their local supermarket.
